The dams of the Elan & Claerwen Valleys in Mid-Wales that created reservoirs of outstanding beauty.
In 1893 an extraordinary scheme was commenced to construct a series of huge dams and reservoirs in the hills of Mid-Wales. A 73 mile long pipeline was laid from the reservoirs to Birmingham with a fall of just 169 feet. The water was expected to fall by gravity to Birmingham. The scheme was an outstanding success and the lakes created were truly beautiful.
This DVD describes the building of the dams and reservoirs and provides stunning views of 45,000 acres of Welsh lakes. It is not hard to see why the Elan Valley was such an inspiration to Shelley.
Also included are – the Dam Busters connection – dimensions of all dams – the dams in full overflow and Shelley and his houses.
