This DVD recalls the history and the memories of a great school with pride, humour and great fondness.
Yardley Grammar School was founded in 1904, with its roots at the 15th century Yardley Old Trust School.
The school became the Yardleys School in 1974, and the life of the school is chronicled from 1904 until 2000.
Anecdotes from former pupils and staff going back to 1918, plus numerous old photographs and records are combined with footage of the grand re-union, held at the school on Saturday 24 June 2000.
Amongst the memorable items included in this DVD is the archive BBC sound recording of the school choir singing 'The House of Wisdom', broadcast in 1954. This included the school hymn. Hearing the hymn again in the old school hall provides a real 'tingle factor'.
This DVD provides examples of pupils who have gone on to have hugely successful careers. These vocations include such diverse positions as Chief Advisor on Scientific matters to HM Government and member of the group Paul McCartney & Wings (Wings).
This is an archive DVD that we continue to sell because of its popularity.
This is a brand new shrink-wrapped DVD which we, as the copyright holder and producer of the DVD, duplicated and which we sell on our site.
"An enormous thank you for the wonderful Yardley video I received from you a few days ago. You have done a fantastic job. I don't know whether one can actually "wear out" a video, if so my copy falls into the "at risk" category ... Every spare moment of my time has been spent watching it and reliving my happy years at Yardley with a mixture of laughter, and, I must admit, at times, near tears. You must have had to undertake a vast amount of research to produce the present video, containing all the records and documents most of us didn't know existed. I do look forward to receiving the Discovery Video Club welcome pack, and I assure you of future purchases, including another two copies of the Yardley video for Christmas presents. Once again many thanks, and congratulations on the masterpiece." (Dr Nicholson, Edinburgh, UK)
"My wife and I enjoyed the video, "Yardley - the life and times of a great school". In particular we thought that the choice of background music was effective in creating an appropriate mood as we were taken through a montage depicting the continuously changing life of the school. I seem to have been linked with Yardley Grammar School directly or indirectly for over fifty years and consequently found a great deal with which I had been familiar covered in the video. Since I started teaching at Yardley in September 1959 we overlapped for one year. I retired from full time teaching in 1989 and for the last twenty-five years I was based in the Biology Lab. so I was quite pleased to be caught on camera with my wife in my former working area. I look back on many happy memories connected with Yardley and was glad that you had put in the work necessary to make such a worthwhile video." (Mr Henderson, Solihull, UK)
"Can I say this was a brilliant film and I really enjoyed it. I was at school between 59-64 and haven't spoken to anyone since leaving. Thank you for bringing the school back to life." (Mrs Powell, Market Harborough, UK)
